Some performance cars scream for your attention. Others let their German engineering do the talking. Introducing the fastest, fiercest Volkswagen yet: the all-new 2022 Golf R.
The Golf R has always been a serious performance car hiding in plain sight. Under the hood of the new 5th generation Golf R lies a turbocharged 2.0L TSI engine producing 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Power is confidently sent to the ground through an updated 4MOTION All-Wheel Drive system, now featuring a new rear axle torque vectoring function for superior agility and sure-footed, neutral cornering balance.
Drivers can choose from a classic 6-speed manual gearbox or the lightning-fast 7-speed DSG Dual Clutch Gearbox. The car’s improved Vehicle Dynamics Manager (VDM) serves as the conductor of the performance orchestra, precisely managing the behaviour of the car’s powertrain, 4MOTION system, steering, Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) adaptive dampers, and more. Two new modes – Special (Nürburgring) and Drift – bring a new level of customization to the experience. Larger brakes, now with cross-drilled front rotors, ensure ample stopping power.
Of course, Golf R remains as well-suited to your daily commute as it does to lapping the legendary Nürburgring Norschleife racing circuit. An R-specific Digital Cockpit and standard Head-Up Display place critical driving information where you need it most. Sport seats finished in Nappa leather feature prominent bolsters for excellent lateral support, all while offering all-day comfort. Ambient lighting offers a personal touch, in turn highlighting the carbon-look décor trim. And in a Canadian Golf R first, a large sunroof is now available.
The all-new Golf R is set to arrive in Canada late 2021.
